 [PREFACE]

The Music Tree is a delightful set of books for young children. Each page has a charming picture which links to a song with a strong humanistic, moral theme. Parents and children can look at the pictures together whilst listening to and joining in the songs.

Many parents are keen for their children to participate in music education from a very early age, at a time when most of them are not yet study the complexities of reading music and playing an instrument. With these books, young children can develop their natural musicianship and stimulate their imaginations by the simple acts of singing, dancing and storytelling. The aim of the Music Tree is to instil a strong love of music before the child is ready to engage in any more formal music education.

There is strong evidence that listening to and singing music at an early age is the best way to develop a life-long love of music. This is best done in the home: the language of music is learnt from the parent, in the same way that spoken language is acquired naturally from everyday human interaction. Sharing music, songs and stories together becomes an important part of everyday family life which is an excellent way to start to develop a life-long love of music and lead to a lifetime of ever-deepening appreciation of music.

To conclude, the Music Tree is a valuable resource for parents and teachers who wish to introduce their children to the joys of music-making in a simple, fun way.

[Experts Recommendations]

The Music Tree is a delightful set of books for young children.

The Music Tree program from Makino Music is built on a child-centered approach that offers both students and classroom teachers space for their own creative play. Activities are designed to invite a variety of participation styles and modalities rather than demanding adherence to a single model. I was impressed with the simplicity and evocative qualities of the materials, and the goal of integrating musical experiences in the everyday lives of young children in school.

The Music Tree course recognizes that music is a means to children’s holistic development, and that through songs, stories, games, colorful picture books and Apps, children are enriched in ways that encompass their cognitive, social, and emotional selves.  The course features music as core to learning, and recognizes that learning is enhanced when it is musically substantive, playful, and dynamic.
